Best UK tanker of 2015 made by LAG Trailers.

The prestigious Tanker of the year-award in the UK has been won by Belgian LAG Trailers. A combination of a higher economical value, a reduction in fuel consumption and a low weight/strength ratio made the tanker an obvious choice for the Fuel Oil News ‘Tanker of the year’-Award.

A successful international partnership

The new fuel semi-trailer is the result of 4 different companies working closely together to create the optimal fuel transport environment. These 4 companies are respectively LAG Trailers, Inver Energy, Turners Transport and Williams Tanker Service. Inver Energy is the proud owner of the new winning fuel semi-trailer.

Technological evolution

What started out as a replacement acquisition, turned out to be a very wise business decision. Inver Energy received a huge economic advantage thanks to the new tanker.

With a design that’s 2 tonnes lighter, the carrying capacity increased with approximately 2000 litres. “The fuel savings that this light tanker achieves is a considerable benefit. The new tanker reduces our daily carbon footprint and allows us a more competitive offering to our customers“ , states Inver Energy’s commercial director, Tony Wilson.

A detailed look at the tanker

The LAG construction method utilises a proven baffle and vessel design that only requires three circumference welds. It eliminates inter-compartment or external weld joints, ensuring zero vessel leakage. Direct shock loading from the suspension is eliminated via suspension and axle components mounted on a self-supporting sub frame carried from the tank’s mounting cradles. It also optimises the suspension spring centre for roll stability and overall height. All suspension components are bolted for ease of maintenance and after-market supply. What’s often forgotten but remains a key performance indicator is the discharge ratio against product retention. The new LAG fuel semi-tanker scored an unrivalled score in this performance indicator.
